About Spf & Shore

Spf & Shore is a sun-care publication for outdoor families, published by Janet Media Group. It covers one category in depth: mineral versus chemical explained, reef-safe and kid-safe picks, tinted and face SPF, and the sun shirts and hats that do the rest of the job sunscreen keeps failing at.

It exists because the category is badly served. Sun care sits between pharmacy, cosmetics and outdoor gear, and most of what gets written about it is either an ingredient-panic piece or a product list with no stated criteria behind it. The reader we write for is neither of those audiences: they read the ingredient list, they want evidence on what is safe for their children and their skin, and they can tell when a recommendation has nothing behind it.

Who writes this

Janet H. is the hands-on owner behind Janet Media Group, the publisher of Spf & Shore. Every article, review and page on this site carries her byline.

That is the full extent of what we will claim, and it is deliberate. We are not dermatologists, cosmetic chemists or formulators, and we do not have an expert panel. Inflating a single author into a fake credential is the most common way sites in this category lose the trust of exactly the reader they are written for.

What this site is

• A research publication. We read drug facts panels and full ingredient lists, compare active filters and labeled water-resistance times, and set that against what a specific buyer actually needs.
• A citation-first one. Every safety, medical or regulatory claim links to a named primary source — the FDA, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, NOAA, the Skin Cancer Foundation.
• Honest about trade-offs. Every mineral sunscreen has a white-cast or texture cost. Every recommendation on this site names it.
• Kept current. Every page carries a visible "Updated <month year>" stamp that we actually honor.

What this site is not

• A testing lab. We have no laboratory, no test panel and no hands-on product program. We never write "we tested", because we did not.
• A medical authority. Nothing here is medical advice. Where a topic warrants it — infants, pregnancy, eczema, a burn you are worried about — we say to ask a clinician, and we mean it.
• A ratings site. No star scores, no review counts, no invented awards. A number we could not defend would be authority we have not earned.
• A price site. We have no live price feed. Every product link goes to the retailer so you see the current price rather than a stale one.
